First-timers

First time on the pole? No worries!

We welcome everyone and anyone to Otanko’s classes, regardless of skill-level and ability. We do our best to make everyone feel safe and welcome, so here are our tips for making your first class as comfortable as possible.

First time’s free!

Otanko has a policy of one free trial class per person. This means that you can come check our classes out and see if you like them or not, no strings attached. If you want to continue after the first class, you need to become a member and pay the annual membership fee. After that, you can come to classes whenever and how often you want to!

Preparations

When you come to a class, you should have three things:

  • comfortable sports clothes
  • a small hand towel (for wiping the pole)
  • a water bottle

Different pole moves require grip, i.e. skin contact, in different parts of the body, but for beginner classes a T-shirt and a pair of shorts work perfectly. The best clothes are ones you feel comfortable in!

Location & facilities

Otanko’s classes are held at AYY’s association room located in Jämeräntaival 1 in Otaniemi, Espoo. The door is located on the inner courtyard on the B side of the building. The room doesn’t have a changing room, but you can use the bathrooms located in the building’s main lobby.

Just show up!

You can show up to any of our classes for your try-out class, but if you don’t have any pole experience, we recommend starting out with our beginner classes. When you arrive at the association room, inform the instructor that it’s your first time. At this point you can also let them know if you have any injuries, health conditions, previous experience, or other things they should be aware of. And don’t worry, you can ask the teachers for help at any point during the class.

See you soon!
